Keel

Modern reception area with a wooden front desk and artistic wall panels in the background.

From riverbed to wall, these sinker cypress river logs were hauled ashore so as not to interrupt the new marina being built. We reclaimed the sinker river logs, preventing them from being carried away, hand-sorted each trunk for sound heartwood and river patina. This was not an easy endeavor, with permitting required, on-site rigging, and milling.  Each log had to be inspected for density, grain, embedded debris, and salvage condition. Power-washed, kiln-dried, milled, resawed, and flattened to wallboard blanks while controlling moisture and grain orientation. Plane, sand, profile, and apply specified surface treatments to achieve the required finish and dimensional tolerances. By reclaiming sinker cypress one block from the architect's office,  we cut embodied carbon, spared new harvests, and returned river-found timber to purposeful use.

EACH LOG CARRIES ITS RECOVERY COORDINATES, AND EVERY BOARD CARRIES THE STORY OF REMOVAL, RESCUE, AND REUSE.
